Hamilton warns residents about COVID-19 vaccine scam

The City of Hamilton is warning residents about a scam regarding COVID-19 vaccine distribution in the city.

City officials have been receiving notice about the scam, which is targeting Hamilton residents and offering the chance to pay for special early access to a COVID-19 vaccination; an offer that is, of course, totally fake.

“We are noting reports of a new COVID-19 vaccine scam targeting Hamilton residents, asking them to pay to get to the front of the line for vaccinations,” reads a message from the City of Hamilton’s Twitter account.

“This is a scam – vaccines are free in Hamilton; please do not provide financial info.”

There is no legitimate way of ‘jumping the line’ to receive a COVID-19 vaccine in Hamilton, as local public health continues inoculating the city’s population in a sequence that prioritizes higher risk individuals.

Currently, Hamilton is in the midst of vaccinating older adults aged 85 and up, high priority healthcare workers, those living and working in the shelter system, and Indigenous adults from higher risk communities.

Eligibility for a COVID-19 vaccine is expected to continue widening in the weeks and months to come, in line with the current projected timelines offered on the city website.
