Hamilton will host Remembrance Day ceremonies virtually this year

The news shouldn’t surprise any locals, but the City of Hamilton has announced its plans to host its Remembrance Day service online this year amid the risks of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The virtual ceremonies will take place on November 11th at 10:30 am and will be available to watch on Cable 14 as well as online via the Cable 14 website.

The event is also going to include special highlights from the city’s past Remembrance Day services in a “Hamilton Remembers” tribute.

The ceremonies this year will not include a military parade or any live performance, and any community services coordinated by legions in Hamilton are also cancelled out of an abundance of caution.

“As the pandemic has prevented us from gathering together in person, it is more important than ever to honour our veterans and military members by attending virtual Remembrance Day events and by wearing red poppies in honour of those who served and sacrificed their future to protect the freedom of our country,” says Hamilton’s Mayor Fred Eisenberger.

“ On Wednesday, November 11th, I encourage community members to come together online to reflect and remember the hundreds of thousands of brave Canadians who fought for us.”

Any locals who would like to have a wreath placed at the cenotaph on behalf of their organization can drop their wreaths off at the Hamilton Military Museum between now and November 10th.
