Hamilton’s COVID-19 vaccine rollout expands to all Indigenous adults

In partnership with local Indigenous organizations and communities, the City of Hamilton has further expanded its COVID-19 vaccine rollout to include all Indigenous adults in the city.

This expansion goes beyond the current eligibility requirements for Hamilton’s Indigenous population, which only allowed for Indigenous adults aged 55 and up to get their shots.

All eligible members of the Indigenous population can book an appointment for their COVID-19 vaccine by calling public health’s COVID-19 hotline at 905-974-9848, option 7. Vaccinations will be by appointment only, with no walk-ins permitted.

Additionally, Hamilton Public Health is working alongside local Indigenous organizations to erect a pop-up vaccine clinic for Indigenous people, which is expected to be in operation during the last week of March. Details on the clinic will be made available soon.

“Collaborating with Hamilton Public Health Services means we can ensure all eligible members of the Indigenous community have the opportunity to be vaccinated in locations that work for them, whether it’s at a large-scale clinic, through a mobile pop-up clinic in their neighbourhood or in another setting,” says Constance McKnight, CEO of De dwa da dehs nye>s Aboriginal Health Centre.

“Booking vaccine appointments for Indigenous adults will ensure they can be part of stopping the spread of COVID-19 in Hamilton and its disproportionate impact on our community.”
