A unique new coffee shop in Hamilton is seeing its official grand opening today.
The Inclusion Coffeehouse located within the Bernie Morelli Recreation Centre at 876 Cannon Street East has everything you’d expect out of your typical café: freshly brewed coffee, tea, hot chocolate, baked goods, and more are on hand here.
But what makes this coffee shop unique is that it is run by Hamiltonians with and without intellectual disabilities, who are trained and employed to run the day-to-day café operations from greeting visitors to serving to baking.

It’s a venture headed by L’Arche Hamilton, the local branch of an international organization that supports those with intellectual disabilities through special programs, housing assistance, and community building.
The café has technically been open in a soft-launch format since December of 2021, but today is The Inclusion Coffeehouse’s official grand opening, celebrating this awesome new social initiative.
“We are people with and without intellectual disabilities creating a community coffeehouse where all can gather and learn about each other, while enjoying some delicious treats!” reads a message from the coffee shop.
The Inclusion Coffeehouse is open every Tuesday from 10 am to 1 pm at Bernie Morelli Recreation Centre at 876 Cannon Street East.
