Hamilton’s tiny art gallery hosts solo exhibit of local high schooler’s art

The Mapleside Museum of Miniature Art – or, the MMOMA for short – made a splash in Hamilton when it launched a few months back as the city’s first tiny art gallery.

In the spirit of the little free libraries, a residence along Mapleside Avenue set up the beautiful mini gallery along the sidewalk, allowing passersby to admire the mini works of locally-crafted art inside and even to add their own work or take away a piece that speaks to them.

Now, for the first time, the MMOMA is hosting a solo exhibition of a Hamilton resident’s art: that of talented 17-year-old Burlington resident Frank Chen.

The exhibition has been named ARTCEPTION by Chen, who hopes to continue his education in visual art through Sheridan College’s animation program.

Though locals are asked not to take the display pieces out of the exhibit, stacks of prints are available in a built-in cubby so visitors can take a copy of their favourite piece home with them.

Chen’s stunning, rich artwork is currently on display in the MMOMA as part of Winterfest through this week and is the first of three solo exhibits featuring works by local high school students.
