We’ve all heard it a thousand times, but it’s just as true each time: shopping local is more important than ever during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Hamilton’s small businesses and local institutions have suffered big blows over the last year as the pandemic impacts their ability to operate as usual.
Local restaurants and breweries have been converted to temporary bottle shops. Retail stores have had to pivot more strongly into e-commerce or scale back operations. Places of entertainment, like live theatres and concert venues, have been put in the tough position of having to close up altogether.
That’s why a new website, called Hamilton Supports Local, has been created to offer an all-in-one hub for local small businesses of all kinds to hold space and gain further exposure, while also helping locals find what they need from a local spot rather than a corporate business or big box store.
The website features a directory of Hamilton small businesses, separated into categories like retail, services, restaurants, and events. Locals can search the website to find a homegrown business that fits their needs, putting their spending money right back into the local economy.
In the mood for something sweet? Local favourites like Chocolat on James and hidden gems like Gold Bars Dessert are featured for your shopping pleasure. In need of some new unique clothing finds? Purveyors like sariKNOTsari or The Mix HamOnt are available.
Photography services, handcrafted wood items, skincare products, and even pet supplies are also on offer in the current lineup of businesses featured in the directory.
The list of small businesses continues to grow on the website too, with more options and special categories sure to come as more and more local businesses add themselves.
