HSR to add more bus service to the Hamilton Mountain

Public transit users on the Hamilton Mountain might have a bit of an easier time getting around on the HSR soon.

With the City of Hamilton seeing a $7 million transit budget increase in 2020, an initiative to increase the frequency of bus service on the Hamilton Mountain has been put forth as part of Hamilton’s overall transit plans, pending City Council’s approval of a 9.6 per cent budget increase.

The proposed plan would see service increasing on the 44 Rymal bus route heading between Stoney Creek and Ancaster (and connecting commuters to the new Confederation GO Station), and an increase in the A-Line bus service which connects Hamilton’s downtown waterfront to the Hamilton International Airport in Mount Hope.

Specifically, the increases would entail adding service every 20 minutes during peak hours for the 44 Rymal bus, and service every 15 to 20 minutes until 10 pm for the expansive A-Line route.

If these proposed HSR service changes are approved by City Council, they could go into effect for Hamilton Mountain bus riders by as early as September 2020.
