Local artists livestreaming performances today amid Covid-19 outbreak

Hamilton artists are coming together for Hamilton Shows Up, a livestream event where audiences will be able to watch the performances of twenty local musicians, playwrights, actors, dub poets, and dancers from the comfort of their own home.

The event, hosted by Cobalt Connects and Steel City Music, came about in response to the Covid-19 outbreak, which caused the cancellation of almost all live performances in the city that had been scheduled for the coming months. The cancellations have left many in the creative community without employment for the foreseeable future.

Hamilton Shows Up is asking for pay-what-you-can from those who view the livestream, collecting donations via GoFundMe campaign. Half of the funds raised will go to the artists participating in the event, with the other half allocated to initiatives and programming to support local artists in the future.

The line-up includes Polaris Prize nominated B.A. Johnson, internationally recognized dub poet Klyde Broox, local playwright Michael Kras, drag queen storyteller Ladybird Fancypants, and many more.

Audiences can watch Hamilton Shows Up on Saturday, March 21st from 5pm to 9pm on Cobalt Connect’s Facebook page or Steel City Music’s Facebook page.

Contributions towards the Hamilton Shows Up fundraising campaign can be made at on their GoFundMe page.
