Major renovations in store for McMaster Divinity College

Over the last 60 years, little changes have been made to McMaster Divinity College. After years of fundraising, a 13,530-square-foot expansion and renovation will break ground in a few weeks time.

Located at McMaster University’s main campus, the McMaster Divinity College is a self-contained institution that holds a chapel, classrooms and a covered walkway that is similar to that of a monastery. The building is currently 31,042-square-feet in size, with an enrolment of approximately 185 students.

As of right now, the divinity college’s fundraising effort has reached $4.2-million of their $5.2-million goal. The college is currently renovating the second floor of their original building, with plans to begin work on the first floor in January. It’s anticipated that the entire project will be complete by fall 2019.

According to Melanie McGlynn, Executive Assistant to the college President and Academic Dean, the construction of a new building will create a more usable and diverse space for students, faculty and staff alike.

The college hopes that the new building will also give them more of an opportunity to host a variety of events.

McMaster Divinity College will host a groundbreaking ceremony for their new building on October 30 from 1 – 2 pm.
