A 44 year-old Hamilton man has been arrested for being in possession of an explosive device after an hours-long interaction with Hamilton Police outside of Lime Ridge Mall.
The incident began just after 5 am on Monday, February 1st as local police responded to a call about a male in crisis outside of the popular Hamilton Mountain shopping center on Upper Wentworth.
When police arrived at the scene, a man was identified alone in a parked vehicle and the area surrounding was quickly secured, with the entire Lime Ridge parking lot blocked off for much of the day.

After almost three hours attempting to communicate with the man, he suddenly attempted to leave the Lime Ridge parking lot, hitting police vehicles and barricades in the process.
His vehicle was once again contained by police as it reached Upper Wentworth and the man was taken into police custody without injury.
Following his arrest, police searched the vehicle and uncovered a suspicious device that was found to be an explosive, rendering it inoperable shortly after.
According to an official release by the Hamilton Police, a residence related to the male near Concession and Upper Sherman was subsequently searched, and further evidence related to the explosive device was discovered.
The man has been charged with possession of an explosive device and is set to appear in court today.
