Mass internet outage currently affecting much of Hamilton

Having internet issues today? You’re far from alone: many Hamilton residents are currently experiencing service issues from a number of local internet providers.

The issues began around 9:30 am on Tuesday morning, with providers Rogers, Bell, and Cogeco reportedly seeing connectivity issues for users in the Hamilton area and around much of Southern Ontario.

“Please, note that we are investigating an issue impacting our Internet services,” said Cogeco in a post on Twitter.

“Our technicians are working to resolve this situation as soon as possible. We apologize for the inconveniences it may cause.”

The timing for such a large outage is especially unfortunate given how many Hamiltonians have been thrust back into working from home as the city sits in COVID-19 lockdown until at least late January.

Additionally, this is the week in which students across Hamilton are returning to an online virtual class schedule ahead of a delayed return to in-person classes.

Thankfully, the Hamilton school board has said students will not be penalized for an inability to access online classes today as a result of the outages.
