Five medical students at McMaster University wrote an open letter to Ontario Premier Doug Ford and Minister of Health Christine Elliot advocating for the importance of paid sick leave during the pandemic.
The students were interview on CBC over the weekend and revealed that more than 600 medical students have signed the letter.
Thank you so much @NatashaFatah @CBCNews for having us on. #PaidSickLeave is an important policy that can help protect essential workers who are most at risk, and I hope our advocacy can help move the needle on this issue.

Paid sick leave has been a hot topic during the COVID-19 pandemic as an important factor to encourage those feeling unwell to stay home.
Currently, some people in Ontario cannot afford to stay home sick and has been thought to be a factor in spreading the virus in hotspot areas.
McMaster student Rishi Bansal is responsible for putting together the letter and collecting the signatures.
He said during the interview on CBC that paid sick days are important to help continue protecting frontline workers.
Right now, employees can receive up to three paid sick days after working somewhere for at least two consecutive weeks. However, there are special rules that apply to some occupations.
