Despite most of the 2020-21 academic year taking place virtually, McMaster University has just confirmed a new student case of COVID-19 on campus, according to a statement on the school’s website.
This marks the 3rd student case confirmed at McMaster and 5th overall within the last five weeks as the fall term is underway.
In their statement released on October 8th upon learning of the confirmed positive case, McMaster explained that the student in question had been present for a brief period of time on campus on October 6th in the John Hodgins Engineering Building.

“The student has been very thorough in sharing their actions while briefly on campus and we thank them for their diligence,” says McMaster University, adding that all further contact tracing is currently being handled by local public health.
Reports of this new case come just a few days after the university confirmed a new case of COVID-19 found in an employee on October 4th, and is the 5th overall case confirmed by McMaster since the beginning of September.
