McMaster University named one of Canada’s top 50 research universities

McMaster University is making Hamilton proud once again, as the institution has been named one of Canada’s top 50 universities for its research efforts for the fourth year in a row.

McMaster is one of the 18 universities in Ontario included in Research Infosource’s 2020 rankings, which also includes the University of Toronto, Queen’s University, University of Ottawa, York University, Ryerson University, Brock University, and the University of Guelph, among others.

The Hamilton university also earned the top spot for Research Infosource’s corporate research income category, recognizing the fact that McMaster has brought in more private sector research funding than any other Canadian university.

In 2020, McMaster’s total recorded income for sponsored research was $371.6 million; a testament to the university’s position as a leading national hub for research.

“McMaster is home to some of the world’s ‘best and brightest’ whose contributions continue to position McMaster as a national and global leader,” remarks David Farrar, President of McMaster University.

“The true value of their work reaches far beyond any particular ranking and is best captured through its impact on the social and economic well-being of our communities.”

The rankings by Research Infosource are based on financial data from 2019, sourced through Statistics Canada.
