New Spanish restaurant launching their grand opening today in Hamilton

If you’re looking for a taste of Latin America, you’ll more than likely be excited to hear about the grand opening of a genuine Spanish restaurant in Hamilton on Friday September 27th. Owner and creator Maria Vivas calls it Spanish Chubbys.

Vivas calls them chubbys, but they have a variety of names in the Latin American community. In Mexico they’re called gorditas, and in Colombia and Venezuela they’re called arepas. For Colombians and Venezuelans, arepas are what bread is to the North American and European cultures. They eat trepans for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or snacks any time of the day. Maria’s chubbys are all carefully handmade and are gluten free. The restaurant also caters to vegetarians.

Gorditas are considered to be the original cornmeal in the Spanish culture. Spanish Chubbys promises you’ll find the true taste of Colombian food at their restaurant. Home-cooked food made from a family-friendly environment is what Vivas believes will make her restaurant stand out.

The menu offers a variety of chubby types, like desmechada, la reyna, tofu, bean lovers, “meat fan”, el paisa, and flaquitas which are larger flat cornmeal patties. Patrons will no doubt feel at home with what Vivas describes as a traditional atmosphere and a delicious flavour in every dish.

You can support the Spanish Chubbys grand opening today by visiting 298 King St. W from 11 am to 11 pm.
