The nomination process is now open for the City of Hamilton Arts Awards. These city-administered awards recognize the outstanding achievements of established and emerging artists working in a variety of disciplines in the city.
The City of Hamilton Arts Awards recognizes artists in 11 different categories and presents $36,500 in cash awards and civic recognition.

An established artist and arts community leader will be selected by a jury in each category. The recipient will receive $2,500, an arts award commemorative bronze medal designed by artist Dora de Pédery-Hunt and civic and media recognition.
An emerging artist will be selected by the established artist award winner in each category. The emerging artist recipient will receive $1,000, a certificate of recognition and civic and media recognition.
This year’s categories include the lifetime achievement, arts innovation, music, arts education and community arts, arts management, fine craft, media arts, theatre, visual arts, and dance and performing arts,
On top of this, the Hamilton Community Foundation is presenting the Shirley Elford Emerging Artist Prize. This year the winner will be chosen by jury and selected from the category of Arts Education and Community Arts as well as Writing. The recipient will receive $2,000 and civic and media recognition.
Eligible artists must be at least 18 years old and be a current Hamilton resident for the last two years. Winners of the emerging artist prize in previous years can be nominated for established artist awards. However, full-time students and non-Canadian citizens cannot be nominated.
With our city’s burgeoning arts scene on a continual rise, the City of Hamilton Arts Awards are an excellent way to put a spotlight the people who make that scene possible.
