Ontario to make take-out alcohol sales permanent

The provincial government announced that they plan to make take-out beer, wine, and spirits permanent in order to aid the financial recovery of restaurants and bars amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Take-out booze service is an attempt to help struggling businesses and means every licensed Ontario establishment can sell alcohol for consumption at home.

A formal announcement was made by Associate Minister of Small Business Prabmeet Sarkaria on Wednesday.

The latest legislative change will remove any complications that have arisen from the initial order from earlier this year.

Sarkaria will also announced the “Rebuilding Main Street” plan that will give small businesses with fewer than 10 employees $1,000 to help them afford appropriate PPE and customer safety.

The original guidelines for selling take-out beer, wine, and spirits was supposed to expire on December 31st.

However, Ontario Premier Doug Ford said they believe Ontarians want fewer restrictions after surveying business owners around the province.

Ford hinted back in May that take-out sales of alcohol might be something that becomes permanent.

Any restaurant or bar offering take-out beer, wine, and spirits must have everyone involved successfully complete Ontario’s Smart Serve training.
