Ontario’s cannabis stores no longer deemed essential, forced to close this weekend

Ontarians who use recreational cannabis products had better stock up, because all of the province’s licensed cannabis retail stores will be closed until further notice as of end of day today, Saturday April 4th.

The closures come as a result of Premier Doug Ford’s announcement that the province will be tightening up its list of essential services allowed to remain open for business amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

While cannabis shops were originally on the list and able to keep up operations, they have now been deemed non-essential and forced to close their doors for at least the next 14 days as of Saturday, April 4th at 11:59pm.

This affects all legally licensed cannabis retail stores in the Hamilton area, including Cabbage Brothers (formerly Hello Cannabis) in Dundas, Tokyo Smoke in Stoney Creek, and Canna Cabana on Barton Street.

Recreational cannabis users can still shop online via The Ontario Cannabis Store, which will continue to fulfill orders. Licensed producers of cannabis products may also continue operations.
