Hamilton homeowners interested in making their homes more energy efficient should check out a new City of Hamilton pilot program launching soon.
Better Homes Hamilton is a program co-designed by Mohawk College’s Centre for Climate Change Management and the City of Hamilton. During the soon-be-launched pilot phase, up to 50 Hamilton homeowners will be able to access to 0% interest loans of up to $20,000 per applicant to finance energy efficiency measures.
Supported building upgrades include increasing insulation, air sealing/draft proofing, and installing efficient space heating and cooling equipment such as air source heat pumps.
Better Homes Hamilton’s ultimate goal is to scale up the pilot to allow as many Hamiltonians as possible to retrofit their homes to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, increase home energy efficiency, and live more comfortably.
Participants in the program will be supported by an in-house Energy Coach who will help homeowners select the upgrades that will meet their goals.
They will also provide guidance on how to maximize existing rebates and incentives through programs such as the Government of Canada’s Greener Homes Grant, Enbridge’s Home Efficiency Rebate Plus (HER+), and Enbridge’s Home Winterproofing Program.
