Pokeh has closed its location on Concession Street

Hamilton’s beloved poke bowl purveyor Pokeh has heartbreakingly announced that it will be closing the doors of its remaining location at 522 Concession Street.

This news comes not long after Pokeh pulled the plug on its original location as a stand in the Hamilton Farmers’ Market: a spot that, pre-pandemic, was one of Hamilton’s most popular places for a delicious work lunch, with regular line-ups of locals looking to get their fix of Pokeh’s sushi bowls.

Owner Salar Madadi – who is also behind Detroit-style pizza spot MaiPai – made the announcement on Monday afternoon from the food spot’s social media, explaining that Pokeh as an entity is going on indefinite hiatus.

“We had plans that got turned upside down over the last year, and combined with having just opened MaiPai, I didn’t have the time, energy, or focus to devote to Pokeh,” reads the message on Instagram.

However, the announcement makes it clear that this is not the true end of Pokeh in Hamilton, and that Madadi is currently considering alternative options.

“We’re gonna keep an eye out for another space downtown in the future, and possibly consider running a ghost kitchen out of MaiPai, but for now we’re on hold.”

Dozens of Hamilton food lovers and Pokeh fans readily swarmed the comments to express their heartbreak over the closure and their optimism that Pokeh will once again return full-force when the time is right.
