QEW speed limit to increase between Hamilton and St. Catharines

If you’re travelling along the QEW between Hamilton and St. Catharines, you may notice things moving a little faster. Starting Thursday, the speed limit along that strip of road will be increased as part of a previously announced pilot project.

The Ontario government has raised the speed limit on three provincial highways from 100 to 110 km/h.

Other stretches of highway include stretches of Highway 402 between London and Sarnia and Highway 417 between Ottawa and the Quebec border.

The 110 km/h speed limit is more in line with other provinces says Transportation Minister Caroline Mulroney. Faster speed limits is a return to levels that were previously used in Ontario until 1975.

Enhanced signs and safety messages will be posted by the ministry on the routes included in the pilot project so that the public are aware of the changes.

The ministry is also looking for public feedback on the effects of the new speed limits. Members of the public can fill in an online survey until November 23.
