Roxborough Park development approved for Hamilton’s east end

Hamilton city councillors have officially approved the long awaited Roxborough Park development. This development will be the largest overhaul of Hamilton’s inner city in decades.

The development, to be built by Roxborough Park Inc., will cover just over 5.5 hectares near the Red Hill Valley Parkway. Buildings that’ll be part of the development include three apartment complexes, hundreds of townhouses, affordable homes and over 100 new social housing units.

The project was first discussed in June 2015 and the first project briefing was held in December 2017. Applications for a Zoning By-law Amendment were submitted in January this year, followed by the developers sharing project ideas with the surrounding public.

Not much has changed from the project’s original plan. The goal of the development has always been to aid in Hamilton’s housing crisis and keep access to affordable housing. The variety of housing options being built at the development will serve a mixed range of incomes.

The development will be built where Roxborough Park School once stood, stretching out and replacing multiple CityHousing Hamilton rowhouses. Once completed, the Roxborough Park development will bring over 650 new living spaces to Hamilton’s east end.

For regular updates on the development, be sure to check Roxborough Park Inc.’s website.

What do you think about the Roxborough Park development? If you could add or change anything to the existing plans, what would they be? Let us know in the comments.
