Stuffed rabbit rescued from Burlington rooftop after fall from airplane

Finally, Bunny is home.

The stuffed bunny has been a staple in the Maginnis family for 25 years. 58-year-old Jim Maginnis is a squadron leader in the Royal Air Force. His job has taken him all over the world – and Bunny has often come with him. The 25-year-old Maginnis heirloom has been to Spain, Rome, Paris, Berlin, and Afghanistan.

Bunny has a special connection to the family, especially Jim’s 26-year-old daughter, Victoria. Bunny has been there through her first day of school, family vacations, graduations, and countless milestones. She even brought the toy with her when she moved to Toronto from the UK, where the family resides.

On November 9th, Jim Maginnis flew a WWII-era Lancaster bomber, departing from the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum in Hamilton. Shortly after taking off, he decided to put Bunny down so he could take a picture, and Bunny flew out of the plane’s turret and was seemingly lost forever.

But not all hope was lost! After scanning the flight data, Jim was able to determine that Bunny was somewhere in Burlington between Aldershot and QEW at Plains Road East. Despite the long shot odds and strained hope in her stuffed toy being recovered, Victoria posted a picture of Bunny on the Burlington Lost and Found Facebook page.

This morning, CAMA Woodlands Long Term Care Home took to Facebook to share that a pair of workers from an HVAC company found the missing toy on the retirement home’s roof.

CAMA owner Patti Cervoni immediately emailed Victoria with a picture of Bunny. Jim Maginnis returned to the UK on November 12th, so his reunion will have to wait some time but Victoria will be picking Bunny up on Saturday.
