Sweetness Bakery in Ancaster has closed

In news perhaps more bitter than sweet, Ancaster dessert staple Sweetness Bakery has closed its doors.

Just a few doors down from the locally-beloved Starbucks location that recently closed up shop in Ancaster Village, Sweetness Bakery stood out with its bright pink façade and the melange of dessert deliciousness available within. Cupcakes, full-sized custom cakes, French macarons, and other baked goods were on offer at this independent dessert shop.

The curious closure was quiet and unceremonious: no official announcements have been made on any of Sweetness Bakery’s social media accounts, most of which haven’t seen postings since early last year.

It’s notable, though, that customer feedback and reviews were pretty widely varied. Some Google reviews praised Sweetness for its timeliness, service, and product, while an equal amount of patrons said it offered experiences among the worst they’ve had with a local bakery.

Passersby in Ancaster have surely noticed the gutted storefront at 240 Wilson Street East, which still sits empty; a reflection of the adjoining plaza parking lot, which is noticeably much less crowded with cars since Sweetness and Starbucks both shut up shop.

No word yet on if Sweetness Bakery plans to make a return, in Ancaster or otherwise.
