The Hamilton McDonalds employee who claimed to have COVID-19 faked having the virus in order to get out of work. After providing a doctor’s note that stated a positive test for the novel coronavirus, the Hamilton location at Rymal and Upper James was forced to close and send all its employees into self-isolation.
In a report by the Hamilton Spectator, police were tipped by Hamilton Public Health Services on March 23rd that an 18-year-old employee at the 20 Rymal Road East location provided a fake doctor’s note with fraudulent information regarding testing positive for the coronavirus.

After the note was given to a restaurant supervisor on March 19th, the store took immediate safety precautions by shutting down all operations and sending all employees home to self-isolate.
The location remained closed for days to receive a thorough cleaning and sanitation. The closure had a large impact on the restaurant, neighbourhood, and employees.
An 18-year-old employee is now facing charges of mischief over $5000, fraud under $5000, use of a forged document, and creating a forged document.
The employee has been released on an undertaking and expected to appear in court on May 18th.
