These 3 television series filmed in Hamilton have been nominated for Emmy Awards

With Hamilton emerging as a major Canadian hub for prominent film & television production, it’s no surprise that some heavy-hitters of the industry have made use of the city as the site for multiple popular movies and TV series.

Familiar Hamilton hotspots regularly appear on screen as the setting for Oscar-winning feature films, and popular television shows created for everything from HBO to Netflix to Amazon Prime; and excitingly, a handful of those Hamilton-shot projects just received nods for the 72nd annual Primetime Emmy Awards.

The largest industry honour of its kind, the Emmy Awards recognize the best and brightest in television and the people who make it possible. This year, three notable Hamilton-shot series have received nominations.

Those series include the ever-popular Handmaid’s Tale, a Hulu series based on the Margaret Atwood novel that has seen numerous Emmy honours in its three-season history, including Best Television Series – Drama; an award that the series is one again nominated for this year.

The next nominated series is Mrs. America, a historical drama limited series led by Academy Award-winning actor Cate Blanchett that is seeing a nod for Outstanding Limited series this year.

Finally, there’s Self Made, a Netflix original limited series released just this year about America’s first-ever Black, self-made female millionaire, Madam C.J. Walker. Oscar-winning actor Octavia Spencer stars as Walker, and has been nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie.

Want to see if any of this Hamilton-shot series will take home a win? The 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards air this year on Sunday, September 20th.
