This Caledonia supermarket is opening one hour early just for seniors during COVID-19

While the ongoing global outbreak of COVID-19 has inspired everything from panic to outright fear in Hamilton and beyond, it has also resulted in a great deal of solidarity, support, and generosity.

One such example is a particular location of Zehrs Supermarket in Caledonia, which has taken creative steps to ensure some of our population’s most vulnerable people – seniors – have the opportunity for a safe grocery shopping experience during this difficult time.

Beginning on Wednesday March 18th, the Caledonia location of Zehrs at 322 Argyle Street South will be open from 7 am to 8 am daily specifically for seniors to shop safely with minimized COVID-19 risk and much-needed peace of mind.

“The store will be stocked, cleaned and sanitized to allow our senior shoppers to get the supplies they need in a less crowded and stress free environment,” explains Zehrs Caledonia in a Facebook post.

It’s already well documented that people of senior age are the most at-risk in the face of the highly contagious COVID-19 virus, which has a greater likelihood of doing more damage or even being fatal in older adult patients.

Hopefully, other local grocery stores and essential services will take similar measures to help make this bumpy period in time a little bit smoother.
