A collective of Hamilton firefighters have joined forces with local charity Food4Kids with involvement from Westdale culinary shop The Casual Gourmet to launch a fundraiser that tackles childhood hunger.
The Hamilton Professional Firefighters Association (HPFFA) regularly raises money to donate to important local causes, and their latest is the #eatAbeet Challenge, brought back for the second year in a row to benefit Food4Kids and help feed hungry children city-wide.
The #eatAbeet Challenge for @Food4KidsHamOnt starts this Friday, January 28!

The playful social media challenge kicks off on January 28th this year and is pretty simple: the first step is to eat a beet in any preparation you want, whether it’s raw, cooked, juiced, pickled, and beyond and sharing it on social media with the hashtag #eatAbeet.
Then, participants are encouraged to donate to Food4Kids Hamilton via their website and, afte that, challenge some friends to #eatAbeet as well and keep the campaign rolling!
On top of that, the HPFFA will be spearheading a contest that awards prizes to the top 3 favourite #eatAbeet social media posts created by students, teachers, and staff at local schools. First prize is $3,000, second prize is $2,000, and third prize is $1,000; all to be allocated to a class, program, project, team, or club within the school.
Playing a role in the fundraiser, Westdale’s popular shop The Casual Gourmet will be selling #eatAbeet t-shirts with proceeds going to Food4Kids, giving away free beets, and spending some days in their on-site kitchen this week preparing beet dishes to help raise awareness.
The HPFFA hopes to hit their goal of $50,000 raised this year, so join in on the action and help ‘beet’ childhood hunger starting this Friday, January 28th!
