This video series goes in depth on Hamilton’s homeless residents

With homelessness holding strong as a heartbreakingly pervasive social issue in the city, a Hamilton-based filmmaker has created an eye-opening and empathetic series of videos that feature a number of Hamilton’s homeless residents in vulnerable, in-depth interviews.

That filmmaker is Penny O’Radical, who himself has experienced homelessness before as a Hamilton resident and has first-hand experience with the city’s social services and programs set up to support locals experiencing homelessness.

With that lived experience giving O’Radical an empathetic inroad as a creator, the filmmaker not only vulnerably details his own live experiences, but also – with their consent – sits down with a number of current homeless residents for frank, raw, and insightful discussions that give a close look at what it’s like to experience homelessness, particularly here in Hamilton.

The series, which O’Radical has called ‘On the Streets’, paints a clear-eyed portrait of an aspect of Hamilton often ignored.

By capturing these informative and humane profiles, as well as documenting many of the current realities for the homeless community in Hamilton such as touring local encampments, O’Radical has created a project that will show locals the unfiltered realities of the homeless crisis within out city.
