Saturday night capped off a special record-breaking season for the Hamilton Tiger-cats with their 21-18 win over the Toronto Argonauts.
The win caps off a dominant season, in which the Ticats set a franchise record for best overall regular season record at 15-3, and remained undefeated at home at 9-0.
Despite their record, the Ticats were narrow favourites over the 4-14 Argonauts. With one game left in hand, and a guaranteed buy to the Eastern Finals, the Ticats elected to rest key starters such as quarterback Dane Evans.
Rookie quarterback Hayden Moore had an ugly game, going 18-28 in completed passes with 218 yards, 0 touchdowns, and 4 interceptions, 2 of which were returned for touchdowns. The back and forth affair had Ticats and Argos fans alike nervous throughout the whole game.
Heavy turnovers had Ticats fans frustrated and nervous, but a fourth quarter drive led by backup quarter back David Watford, and clutch kicking from Hajrullahu put the Ticats up by 3 with seconds remaining.
Cameron Marshall led the game with 109 rushing yards on 18 attempts and 2 touchdowns, his most productive game of the season.
The Ticats will enjoy this week off as they prepare for the Eastern Final against the winner of the Montreal and Edmonton semi-final.
