Tiger-Cats remain at top of the standings after win over Winnipeg

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats continued their dominant season after a crushing 33-13 victory on Friday over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

The scene for this match up could not have been more exciting.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers, whose 9-4 record set them tied with Calgary atop the Western conference, were sitting on an undefeated 6-0 home record prior to this game.

Winnipeg’s road to 9-4 was not simple. The Western division contains three major powerhouses: the Stampeders, the Blue Bombers, and the Roughriders (all teams with similar records) and the three teams below the Tiger-Cats in the standings.

A win here for Winnipeg would have not only moved them atop the Western Division, but it also would have been a statement victory over the best team in the league.

The Tiger-Cats also came into the week with a point to prove.

The Ticats narrow win over the Eskimos last week left something to be desired. A quick lead from quarterback Dane Evans and crew slowly saw itself disappear after the Eskimos stormed back.

If not for a sloppy game winning kick with seconds to spare, the Ticats would have been coming into the game against Winnipeg with some issues to resolve.

Nevertheless, the game on Friday night was set to be an exciting one.

The Ticats took a commanding lead after a 17-point second quarter gave them a 24-10 lead. Dane Evans threw for 359 yards, three touchdowns and one interception in the 33-13 game.

With four games left in the season, the Grey Cup hopefuls are looking to carry this momentum forward into the playoffs.

The Ticats face off against the Eskimos this Friday, now with even more confidence than before.
