Each year, the Smile Cookie initiative at major coffee chain Tim Hortons endeavours to raise funds for local charities; and this year was a banner year.
The campaign raised a record-breaking $19.7 million in support of charities and community groups across Canada, with a whopping $369,210.10 donated to valued local charities Hamilton Food Share and Food4Kids Hamilton.
Nearly 250,000 smile cookies were decorated in Hamilton for this year’s initiative, with volunteers from the community lending over 100 hours of their time to help out.
“We appreciate the hard work and commitment it takes to ensure a successful Smile Cookie campaign and we want to thank our community and the Tim Hortons owners and team members for everything they do to support our programs,” said Cathy Haan, Executive Director of Food4Kids Hamilton.
At a time when food insecurity is a particularly pressing issue in Hamilton and beyond, this level of support for local food-related charity initiatives could not be more timely.
