The sudden jump in cases comes after the province announced that some seasonal activities and businesses such as golf courses, private parks, marinas, and boat launches were given the go-ahead to open as soon as Saturday.
In addition, this upcoming Tuesday marks the further roll-out of some retail spaces, construction sites, and other eligible businesses opening back up as the province looks to repair the economy.
A report by the Hamilton Spectator explains that the city plans to review the announcement made by the provincial government on Thursday as they consider local impacts. All of this comes with the looming Victoria Day long weekend with some local golf courses already scheduling tee times.
There are currently 11 outbreaks at retirement communities and long-term care facilities in Hamilton with no new outbreaks reported as of May 11th.
In Ontario, the number of confirmed cases reached 21,494 over the last week with 258 new cases reported on Thursday. There have been 1,798 COVID-19 related deaths in the province. More than 16,000 people have recovered from the virus.
