Unique Jane Austen tarot cards are being released by a Hamilton artist

Hamilton visual artist Jacqui Oakley is releasing a unique set of Jane Austen inspired tarot cards on March 10th

The deck of 53 cards features original artwork that is inspired by the work of classic literary icon Jane Austen. Each card has different hand drawn characters and items from the works of the English novelist.

Oakley is a noted Jane Austen artist and the deck doubles as playing cards as well as tarot cards. The package includes famous characters such as Elizabeth Bennett, Mr. Darcy, and Elinor Dashwood. Some of the notable objects include well-trimmed bonnets and a stack of books.

When using the deck as tarot cards, Mr. Wickham from Pride & Prejudice is the devil, a teapot represents strength, and Austen herself is the magician.

The oversized cards come in a hinged cigar box decorated with foil stamping and a wafer seal enclosure. An overview of tarot is included in the pack as well as a guide to the cards and the world of Austen.

Oakley is an illustrator from Hamilton whose work has been featured in the New York Times, Rolling Stone, National Geographic among others.

Pre-orders for the deck of cards are available on the Penguin Random House website.
