Vrancor just released renderings of their $200 million plan to fix FirstOntario Centre

In a very exciting announcement yesterday, local hospitality management company Vrancor Group released the exclusive renderings and visual concepts of the reimagined FirstOntario Centre in downtown Hamilton.

The renderings capture Vrancor’s $200 million redevelopment plan for the arena and entertainment venue formerly known as Copps Coliseum. The plan also includes significant renovations to the FirstOntario Concert Hall (formerly Hamilton Place) and the Hamilton Convention Centre.

In Vrancor’s vision for the redesigned entertainment venues, the FirstOntario Centre arena’s interior will be modernized, and the external façade completely reimagined as well. The exterior will also see the construction of two attached mid-rise office complexes.

According to Mario Frankovitch, project advisor for Vrancor Group, the company is working with architects from Architecture 49 who specialize in arenas and convention centres, signalling that these mammoth projects are in capable hands.

The announcement of these proposals comes fresh off of Hamilton city council’s vote to kill off the proposed construction of a new arena on the Hamilton Mountain at Lime Ridge Mall, which was put forth as the potential new home of the Hamilton Bulldogs.

With the rejection of this proposal, Hamilton Bulldogs team owner Michael Andlauer has said he’s considering moving the team out of Hamilton entirely. However, Frankovitch and Vrancor Group express that they hope the newly renovated facilities will prove enticing enough for the Hamilton Bulldogs to stay home.

The other appeal of Vrancor’s project is that, unlike the Lime Ridge arena proposal, these renovations will not involve any public money.

No word yet on how long these ambitious redevelopment projects would take to reach completion, nor news on when the project is expected to begin.
