Hamilton releases fall leaf and yard waste guidelines for 2022

As autumn descends upon Hamilton and locals look to spruce up their yards, the city has released its annual guidelines for fall leaf and yard waste management.

In a release, the City of Hamilton identifies some key changes to the yard waste collection program for this year.

Residents are informed that the last day of curbside collection of yard waste for 2022 will be Friday, December 9th, and weekly collection will resume March 6th, 2023.

This does not include curbside Christmas tree collection, which will still occur in the first and second weeks of January, and residential yard waste can still be taken to a Community Recycling Centre year-round for free.

Locals are also reminded of the standard rules and guidelines for yard waste disposal, including the use of proper containers like brown paper yard waste bags, ensuring bags of waste are rolled shut with no branches sticking out, and marking yard waste with free City of Hamilton stickers available at various pickup locations.

Additionally, the city will be hosting its annual fall compost giveaway, with locals able to collect compost at Turner Park on the Hamilton Mountain and Joe Sam’s Park in Waterdown.
