Burlington cancels all city-run summer programs and facility rentals amid COVID-19

Burlington has cancelled all summer programs run by the city in order to follow COVID-19 guidelines ordered by the province.
The cancellations include all summer camps, recreation programs, swimming and skating drop-ins, and festivals and events.
Also, all facility rentals are cancelled through September 7th including arenas, pools, community centres, schools, and sports fields.

Mayor Marianne Meed Ward says that these are settings in which they “can’t manage the numbers and keep people safe and healthy.”
It could take between four to six weeks for the city to fully process all of the cancellations with those who paid for facility rentals and programs receiving refunds.
Some of Burlington’s outdoor spaces have already started to open. Mayor Meed Ward said that leash-free dog parks should be open again by the end of the week.
Conservation Halton is reopening five parks on Friday including Crawford Lake, Hilton Falls, Rattlesnake Point, Mount Nemo, and Kelso Summit. They will be using a reservation system to control the numbers within the parks.
Trails will be open for hiking and biking by pre-reserved visits only, but all washrooms and other buildings will remain closed.
Any outdoor spaces set to reopen in Burlington over the next few weeks will have new physical distancing guidelines in place.
