With the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic shuttering restaurants and cafes from in-person foot traffic, many in Hamilton’s food scene have been forced to pivot operations to delivery and curb-side pickup models in order to sustain themselves.
While many Hamilton food spots have shifted to delivery and pickup platforms like Skip the Dishes or UberEats, they have also put a spotlight on how those options are less than ideal for local restaurants from a financial perspective.
Popular delivery apps typically charge high commission fees to their restaurant partners; reportedly, often between 20 and 35 per cent of each order, even those that are set for pickup rather than delivery.
That’s where Curbside Pivot comes in; a newly-established Hamilton initiative that allows local restaurants to easily and efficiently move their menu to an online ordering platform and handle their own curb-side pickup or delivery.
Created by local creative agency Tusq Inc., Curbside Pivot already features a whole host of Hamilton restaurants who are offering their food & drink through easy-to-use online ordering portals and making them available for contactless curb-side pickup and, when available, delivery.
Just a handful of the restaurants available through Curbside Pivot currently are MaiPai Tiki Bar, Motel, Born & Raised, Toast Wine Bar, Donut Monster, Merk Snack Bar, and brand new vegan spot Sookham. More are sure to be available in the near future, as well!
This awesome initiative puts the power back in the hands of Hamilton’s favourite restaurants and allows locals to directly support small businesses during these precarious times. What’s not to love?
