A coyote was spotted in Hamilton’s Confederation Park

Be careful out there, Hamilton: following some warnings from the city issued a few weeks ago, coyotes are indeed being spotted in different locations throughout the city.

In fact, Instagram user @mkiro56 shared images on Monday of a coyote freely walking among pedestrians along the Beach Waterfront Trail at Confederation Park.

“Dog-walking hiker told me there were two of them yesterday, with lots of people around in the same area,” reads the caption on Instagram. “Keep dogs on [leash] and eyes on kids.”

About a month ago, the City of Hamilton released guidelines on what to do if you spot a coyote in the city, including carrying an umbrella or flashlight to scare them off.

They also strongly advise locals not to approach or run away from a coyote; rather it is safest to remain calm and wait at a distance until the coyote decides to move on.

To keep coyotes off of your property, ensure any outdoor garbage containers are properly stored and sealed off, remove any outdoor pet food, and refrain from composting meat products.
