Some brand new design concepts have been released as part of a proposal to restore two iconic sister buildings in Hamilton’s Gore Park.
Posted to Twitter this morning by Jason Thorne, Hamilton’s head of city planning and economic development, the mock-ups depict the proposed design as created by developer Patrick Bermingham and architect Graham McNally.
The proposal shows a sleek and modern restoration of the heritage buildings standing at 62 and 64 King Street East, updating their facades while retaining the integrity of the original structures.

The rightmost space will likely be particularly familiar to downtown Hamiltonians; it is a four-storey building that most recently housed Chester’s Beers of the World up to a few years ago, with a nightclub called Bumpers located above on the second floor that has sat empty for decades.
The spaces have been sitting vacant for years, but were purchased in 2018 by developer Patrick Bermingham with numerous possible plans for restoring the space, including ideas for a restaurant, residential units, or a boutique hotel.
Though specific details don’t accompany the design concepts, it’s clear that the lower level is envisioned to house a restaurant or café space, with office space or residential units on the floors above. The designs also include balcony and rooftop patio space atop the buildings.
