After 90 years, Connaught Fish & Chips is closing its doors in Hamilton

Local lovers of a good ol’ fashioned fish & chip platter have lost a real gem this week, as the longstanding Connaught Fish & Chips has announced it will be closing its doors.

Serving food to the hungry Hamilton masses for an astonishing 90 years, the restaurant at 976 Main Street East announced via social media that their final day of fish-frying will be this Friday, March 13th.

“Well Hamilton, it’s been quite the voyage,” said Connaught Fish & Chips on their social media announcement. “We’d like to thank our customers for all the years of loyalty, patronage and support. To you, our friends, neighbours and suppliers we’d like to extend our very best wishes.”

The news was met with an avalanche of heartbroken messages from loyal Connaught patrons, with nearly 200 Hamiltonians on Facebook leaving comments to share their sadness and stories about this landmark local eatery.

“Another great piece of Hamilton’s rich history disappearing,” remarks one Facebook comment.

While the announcement is undoubtedly a heartbreaker, the upside is that there are still a few precious days for locals to go get their last orders in at Connaught Fish & Chips. Go show ‘em some love, Hamilton!
