Brott Music Festival brings West Side Story to Hamilton

As summer turns into fall, festivals turn into fairs and the summer heat is swept away with the autumn wind. Brott Music Festival, the largest non-profit orchestral music festival in Canada, wants to end their summer season on a high note.

How will they accomplish this? By presenting the Canadian premiere of the concert version of Leonard Bernstein’s “West Side Story”.

Taking place inside the FirstOntario Concert Hall, West Side Story will be performed by Boris Brott’s 60-plus piece National Academy Orchestra, as well as a costumed cast of vocalists.

The concert version of West Side Story will feature all of the music and dialogue from the 1957 Broadway version. Unlike Bernstein’s score, Brott will incorporate violas into his orchestra.

Brott’s orchestra, a spectacle to watch in itself, will be seated on stage rather than in the pit. The eighteen members of the costumed cast will perform in front of the orchestra.

Brott’s take on such a beloved classic is sure to wow the masses; Brott in confident that every seat inside FirstOntario Concert Hall will be filled for the performance.

West Side Story takes place on Thursday, August 16 at 7:30 pm. Tickets begin at $20 and are available to purchase online.
