Canada looks to explore the moon

Canada has been involved in the research and exploration of outer space for over 55 years. Eight Canadian astronauts have participated in 16 missions to space, and the Canadarm has established the country as a world leader in space robotics. Canada’s next great space adventure could land them on the moon.

The Canadian Space Agency is looking for ways to contribute to future space explorations involving human, and robotic, exploration of the moon. The agency is calling on companies, inventors and engineers to present their best and most innovative ideas, from new moon-rover power systems to mineral prospecting techniques.

If these great ideas and inventions come to fruition, the technologies will be demonstrated at the Space Agency’s headquarters next year with possible follow-up testing in the Canary Islands.

Canada is currently working with space agencies in the United States, Europe and Japan on the next phases of exploring the moon.

As of right now, NASA is spearheading a project called the Lunar Gateway. The project will create an outpost that will orbit the moon, allowing astronauts access to the moon’s surface for weeks at a time.

If the creations from the Canadian Space Agency’s call out are successful, they will be included in the Lunar Gateway project.

As Canada is known for its expertise in robotics, as well as being home to some of the best companies, inventors and engineers in the world, Canadian technology making its way to the moon is bound to happen. Here’s to Canada continuing to make its mark on the world and beyond.

Do you have any ideas for the Canadian Space Agency? What do you think of space exploration? Let us know in the comments.
