COVID-19 may have peaked in Ontario, health experts say

According to health experts, the number of COVID-19 cases may have reached its peak in Ontario, coming multiple weeks ahead of the original forecasted timeline.

In an announcement made by the Ontario government, officials say the news indicates that current measures in place in the fight against COVID-19, including staying home and practicing social distancing, are working to flatten the curve and avoid a significant, overwhelming surge in cases.

“The modelling clearly demonstrates that we are making progress in our fight against this deadly virus,” said Ontario Premier Doug Ford. “That’s due to the actions of all Ontarians, those who are staying home and practising physical distancing, and to the heroic efforts of our frontline health care workers.”

Despite the positive bit of news, Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health still stresses that this is hardly the time to relax current measures in place; if anything, they need to continue full-force for the province to stay the course and continue reducing the number of cases and deaths at the hands of the novel coronavirus.

“COVID-19 continues to be a clear and present danger, especially to our seniors and most vulnerable citizens. That is why we must continue to follow the advice of our Chief Medical Officer of Health and stay the course in order to keep people safe and healthy,” explained Ford.

That’s why it remains of the highest importance that Ontarians continue practicing social distancing, frequent and thorough hand-washing with soap and water or hand sanitizer, and staying home except for essential trips for reasons such as grocery shopping or medical appointments.
