COVID-19 outbreak declared at Hamilton Paramedic Service’s Lime Ridge base

A workplace outbreak of COVID-19 has been declared at the Hamilton Paramedic Service’s Lime Ridge Base, according to a release from the city.

Hamilton Paramedic Service was informed of the outbreak by local public health late on Monday, and the affected employees – three paramedics – are currently in self-isolation.

Public health is currently in the midst of contract tracing to ensure that any close contacts of the affected employees also self-isolate. Those who may have been impacted will be contacted.

According to the city’s release, the employees last worked at the Hamilton Paramedic Service’s Lime Ridge Base between Monday, December 28th and Friday, January 1st. A deep cleaning is being conducted at the facility, with no interruptions to any operations. It is also unclear how the outbreak first began.

Though the employees followed all proper procedures with their personal protective equipment (PPE) while interacting with the public, the city is nonetheless informing residents out of an abundance of caution.

This marks one out of a current 26 active COVID-19 outbreaks in Hamilton, most of which are within long-term care facilities.
