Hamilton police charge 32 individuals for breaking lockdown rules over the holidays

Officials in Hamilton said they received over 200 complaints of potential breaches of bylaws and restrictions during lockdown that came into effect on December 26th.

According to a report on Global News, bylaw officers were called out to a number of private residences and establishments over the holidays following up on complaints about gatherings that were more than 10 people.

Hamilton police laid charges against an alleged house party on Primrose Ave on New Year’s Eve. A gathering of 19 people were handed provincial offences notices after a disturbance complaint in the area. 

A person at a New Year’s Eve house party in Brantford was also charged in connection to a large gathering. 

Over the holidays, a total of 32 charges were laid in relation to improper face coverings, lack of physical distancing, and excessive noise. 

As well, 14 businesses were charged from bylaw officers with eight receiving multiple charges for not following lockdown protocol.
