Dundas Buskerfest has been cancelled for 2021

With the allowance of large outdoor gatherings still a while off, Dundas’ famous annual Buskerfest has announced that the massive street festival will be cancelled for 2021.

This is the second year in a row that Buskerfest – which typically draws in huge numbers of attendees from the region and features local and international street performers – has had to pull the plug on the staple summer event.

When the festival was cancelled back in 2020, organizers held out hope that the 2021 iteration could go ahead as usual on June 4th, 5th, and 6th of this year.

However, the City of Hamilton’s Emergency Operations Centre has cancelled all in-person events until July 31st of this year.

On top of that, Ontario’s freshly released, three-stage roadmap to reopening indicates that larger outdoor events won’t be permitted until the third reopening stage. Given that each stage will be in place for at least 21 days and the first phase won’t be in place until mid-June, large summer events and festivals are pretty much a no-go.

Another hurdle for Dundas Buskerfest in particular is the fact that its roster of performers typically includes numerous acts from outside Canada and even North America; and continued limits on international travel pose a problem.

While the news is disappointing, locals can be pretty well assured that Dundas Buskerfest and other large outdoor events will be back full-force in 2022.
