The City of Hamilton is offering residents the opportunity to have a tree planted in front of their home for free as part of a program looking to sustain an urban forest.

There are over 40 different types of native and non-native trees to choose from. Planting a variety of different types of trees helps reduce the loss of tree canopy by disease and insect damage.
Trees are planted on the city-owned road allowance of each property. To take part in the Street Tree Planting Program residents must live on a standard lot or corner lot, depending on the road allowance of the area.
Creating an urban forest throughout the city can help with reducing air pollution, fighting climate change, improving neighbourhood image, building communities, boosting health and benefiting wildlife.
Trees will be planted between the spring and fall of each year. An information card is left at each house with details of how to care for your new tree.
Visit the city website to find out if you’re eligible for a new tree on your property.
