One of Hamilton’s most beloved bakeries has been listed for sale.
Cake and Loaf Bakery, located at 321 Dundurn Street South, has long been a popular spot for both sweet and savoury baked good from cakes to tarts to cookies to breads to pot pies to quiches and so much more.
Its founding owners, Nickey Miller and Josie Ruddingham, first launched the bakery 15 years ago and – after a sizeable amount of time building a strong reputation in the local food scene – have plans to pass the business on to new ownership.
“It’s bittersweet for us to realize that in a lot of ways, the bakery has outgrown us, and it’s now an amazing opportunity for someone else!” wrote Miller and Ruddingham in an announcement on social media.
The pair is currently looking for a new buyer to take the reins on Cake and Loaf, continuing its legacy as a standout Hamilton bakery that’s community engaged and committed to the quality this small business is known for.
“We can’t wait to see how Cake and Loaf evolves with new owners. We have found deep happiness in the freedom of self-employment, in the satisfaction of a well-run kitchen pumping out drool-worthy creations, of the creative freedom baking provides, and the most rewarding of all: someone biting into your baked good and a smile creeping across their lips as they exclaim ‘that’s delicious,’ they add.
While it’s certainly bittersweet to see Miller and Ruddingham move on from the business they built from the ground up, it’s heartening to see how intentional they are about making sure Cake and Loaf is capably ushered into the future.
