Hamilton-born Martin Short nominated for 2023 Emmy Award

Legendary Hamilton-born actor and comedian Martin Short has been honoured with a nomination for a 2023 Primetime Emmy Award

Short is nominated for Best Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his work on the second season of the popular Hulu comedy-mystery television series Only Murders in the Building, where he shares the screen with Steve Martin and Selena Gomez.

This is the second Emmy nomination Short is receiving for his role as Oliver Putnam, a struggling theatre director who launches a true crime podcast with two other residents of his apartment building, played by Gomez and Martin.

The series received a sturdy 11 Emmy nominations in total for 2023, including one for Outstanding Comedy Series.

This is also one of well over a dozen past Emmy nominations for famed Canadian icon Martin Short, who was born in Hamilton in 1950 and attended McMaster University.

His parents – Olive Grace Short and Charles Patrick Short – both had ties to significant Hamilton institutions, with Olive serving as concertmistress for the Hamilton Symphony Orchestra and Charles as a corporate executive with Stelco.
